Surplus SR4759

Awhile ago I purchased a 6lb jug of what is supposed to be surplus SR4759. When my original SR4759 supply ran out, I opened this surplus jug. It sure was not 4759! My question is has any other shooters has tried this powder. Plus any idea where it lies in the burning rate chart. I believe it has a quicker burning than SR4759. Here is a pic of the label.

I’ve always heard, can’t confirm, US used 4759 for training loads in bolt action guns. That would make a jug of government 4759  80 # years old. Doubt if it was used in gas operated guns.

Will have a look at “Hatchers Notebook” see if I can find d a reference

Thanks Boats,

I purchased this jug roughly 2003. If my memory is any good thought it was from McGwen, Tenn. But can not be certain.

Can’t find any reference to 4759 in Hatchers Notebook. He does mention many of the period DuPont powders. Will look into it other books from my Library

Wasn't SR-4759 (SR is Sporting Rifle vs IMR Improved Military Rifle) the replacement for the early SR-80?

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

It says it's '7641' right on the label.
I would email Hodgdon Powder Co and ask if they have any data or info on it.
Someone's word that it's the same as 4759 wouldn't make me use it in anything till I was assured of the burning rate or it's  equivalent to any other common powder.
