Some Hepburn help needed

Print Post
Last week in trying to take apart my failing Hepburn, I realized I have never taken one down to parts and pieces.
The problem; during the last 100 shots, the trigger got very light to the point a cocked hammer let go by itself!  (very exciting)
I thought I would take the action apart, ...buttstock off, block out, same for the mainspring, remove the four screws that hold the lower tang/trigger bow and have a see.

I got that far and the lower tang does not drop out. What am I massing? I don't want to force anything.

I am hoping the innards are just dirty and not broken.

Remove the lever and spring assembly. It will give you more access to remove the trigger assembly…..
I believe it’s just stuck…

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Good video, but I was sure surprised at all the grease he puts inside his Hepburn! Don't think I've ever used that much grease in any of mine, or any other rifle I owned either

I noticed the generous greasing of the pieces too. At one point in the video he mentioned cleaning out rust prior to relubing and assembly. Maybe a hedge against customers in Humid climates. I live in the desert and moisture is an unusual occurrence, so lube that gathers dirt is more trouble than rust is. I have a dear friend that moved to a soggy place for a couple of years, taking his 'desert'-maintained guns with him. He couldn't shoot where he lived readily so they sat unused until he returned to here. His otherwise well kept irons suffered rust on the inside and out in some degree. Maybe DZ is just trying to protect its customers and their own rep with the grease. Just a notion I had.

Thank you to all you that took the time to post the help I needed!

Also, I remember seeing that DZ video years ago and forgot all about it! It is always helpful to see pictures and in this case a video.
Even though all my Remington Hepburn's are original, I think Dan's Hepburn actions are a close if not exact reproduction so his advice applies.
