When my kids were younger, I used to give them 5 rounds of .22LR for their single shot rifles.  If they hit the target, they got 2 more to replace the one they used.  If they missed…

My 2 daughters weren’t born knowing how to shoot, so they paid attention to instructions and learned well.  Both would usually have a large horde of .22LR by the end of the range session.

My 2 sons were born knowing how to shoot, and would quickly run out of ammo.  Then they would barter all the girls chores to get more ammo, which they would quickly expend.  Always made me giggle.

I was always puzzled by Marlin's rework of the Model 1897 in the early 1920's and naming it the "Model 39"? Made no sense at all.
Then in 1939 Marlin remodeled the Model 30 and it became the Model 39A. The change made sense, but the Model 39 I felt should have always been named for the year it came about, similar to other earlier Marlin lever actions.
