Blind pig finds an acorn

I stopped by a gun store on my way home yesterday and found a Stevens .22 Crack shot rifle in a box in parts!!  After a few minutes and the help of my iPhone it looked like all the correct parts were there with the exception of the lever screw which was a ok replacement. From what I could see the bore looked really nice so I took a chance and for 50 bucks what did I have to loose?  I’ve been collecting the “Boys” .22 rifles for some time and rarely do I see one that has a nice bore.  Most are rusted and pitted from neglect even if the outside is half way decent. This one looked like it was used but not abused.  Anyway, got home, cleaned the parts and put it together. The bore turned out to be like new and not relined!! Comparing to what I could find on the web the rifle was made post 1929 as it had a 22 inch barrel and the SVG stamp. Shot it today and I was impressed just wish I could see better!  I need to find, make or buy the correct lever screw and it will be complete. I always love finding a new toy. Just had to share.

Congrats on your find. Is your rifle the last model #26 with the pistol grip stock?
Wisners and Jack First gun parts both have new made lever screws for a Stevens Crack shot #26. You probably could find an original one on ebay.

Great pictures. You've got it figured out now.

By the way, nice little rifle.

I'm not a complete idiot, some of my parts are missing.

That's a sharp looking Stevens.  I found a pair at Jeff Lee's years ago,  your right the sights are for kids... you'll have to tell me how to shrink pics to load on here.

Another board member sent the following to me in reference to posting pictures. It worked for me. Hope it helps you.

Bring up your picture in Windows Photo Viewer. Up on the top where it says Print Email Open etc select Email. It will give you a choice of sizes. Pick one that is less than 900 x or so and send the email to yourself. When you get it save the picture to your Pictures library and use that picture to open in the Browse attachment. Easier and quicker to do than to write about. Good

With a phone or tablet (either android or apple) you can resize as you post the photos.  No need to use a computer or any fancy software.
