Here's my casting setup.  You'll note that the mould is setting on a small heat plate, coming up to temperature with a thermocouple probe inserted in the bullet cavity.  Once the temp. reaches at least 400 degrees I start casting.  When in rhythm I typically cast 60 bullets per hour.  I really like the RCBS pot with the built-in PID

And here's an older photo of the RCBS bottom pour pot being used with a separate PID.  I don't use the bottom pour, preferring to dip cast with a ladle. Note the PID temp is 751 degrees.  I normally cast at 750 degrees.  If you look closely you can spot the PID thermocouple probe sticking out the top of the pot.

The fan is for cooling the mould and pot after finishing a casting session.  One of these days I plan to install an exhaust hood, but until then I open both doors & window in my separate workshop & let the breeze remove any fumes or smoke.  The casting station is located between both doors.

Dirty, toxic, uncomfortable, monotonous, menial, dangerous, boring, no ventilation, no pay. Somebody has to do it, so I do it.

My slave station and a few Saeco 570s.

Wes,
I have found out over numerous shooting sessions that if you arrange your cast bullets horizontally like you have them your shots will string horizontally on the target. If you arrange them vertically then they string vertically. I have settled on arranging them into little circles that eliminates both stringing issues.  Plus for the best groups have the bullet nose pointing to the inside of the circle. This only works for benchrest shooting. For offhand I just let them stay wherever they fall from the mould since that is where they end up on the target.

I use a Walnut Hill press with lead wire. I used to cast swage blanks, but have found lead wire is easier. Can definitely swage many more bullets faster than casting them. I swage many sizes of paper patch bullets .431 .432 .433 .439 .440 .443 .444 .451 .452

Definitely do not need this many dies of course, however, they are nice to get precise fit with different paper and rifles. Lead wire is readily available. Flat base and cup base bullets can be swaged.

Down here in the hot dry desert, there were once Cahuilla Shaman who were known as the “Fire Eaters,” ‘cause they could pickup glowing coals from a fire and put them in their mouths as they danced around blowing out smoke, all without being burned. The best known Fire Eater was Ambrosia Castillo. Ambrosia said that he had special songs that enabled him to handle hot coals without being harmed. I have my own special secret magical song that I sing whilst casting bullets that both prevents me from being burned and makes the lead properly fill the mold cavity. If anyone is interested, you can send me $1,000.00 US and I’ll sing it for you.

Bob,
Take a video of yourself singing it and post it on Tic Toc.  Get millions of views and become an internet influencer and make a fortune.  Just don't make the common mistake that many influencers do by taking a selfie while standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon and slipping only to fall hundreds of feet to your death.

I still use the 'magic words' that my mother once washed my mouth for iterating. Doesn't help make better bullets.

I get sort of a weird pleasure in watching really nice looking bullets come out of the mold.  Although I don't always enjoy long sessions of casting, I sure do like shooting these rifles so it's worth every minute.

I was a cable splicer for Ma Bell. Work a 1200 pair cable for boring. Casting bullets is a joy. This is my set up with a good chair I can cast for 4 or 5 hours.

I've tried sitting. Just cannot do it so I stand and lean on the bench. Old habits I guess.

So Kurt how do you match all of those tiny wires together when splicing? I remember when down the road a guy with an excavator accidentally cut a phone cable with what looked like a thousand tiny wires in it.  I can't even begin to think of how that gets fixed.

One at a time my friend one at a time... I had to troubleshoot and repair cable bundles from Boeing C17 Globemaster aircraft at my old job. The smaller cable assemblies were completely removed if possible but those big ol honking ones you sit there and go through them one at a time... I don't mind casting. If I wanna shoot then I gotta cast but I do it till I get tired then take a rest and go again. Everybody is different in their way or doing but the same in the respect they have to do it to shoot.

After my many years in the Aerospace industry, I know there is No “repairing” flight hardware or electronics. My years in development and Quality Assurance. Forbids repair. Only replacement or at best “reworking” the defective part. Splices are a big no no unless approved by engineering after the rework has been process written and qualified….. a lengthy process…
Just saying,

PS I don’t mind casting…..
