Ballard extractor (Read 376 times)

	I have a forged Ballard action which i have re barreled with a .357 Mag. case size. I am trying to find a blank extractor that has enough metal to cut for that case size. The Rifle Shop ones are copies of larger cases. Anybody know where to get one that will work or how to weld a cast extractor? Thanks Charlie

	It depends on what they're cast from. Originals were steel and I though the Rifle Shoppe ones were cast steel. If so then tig welding does great. I also see them on Ebay occasionally and might watch there.

	Like Tom, I make them now. Made one last month for a #2 that I lined. But I also understand not everyone has the equipment to cut one out. I haven’t found anyone in the area that will attempt to tig one for me. But, I have had them tig welded, as well as laser. Either works, but even Peter Nagel told me he has some problems doing them. I think laser is the best, can be expensive, but it is very precise. The problem for me, in either case, is the time. Peter is usually a month and the laser has been 3 months waiting. Making one is a couple hours. Bob

	I have one that would fit if the angle is correct. The photo shows it in my 30 Wesson Ballard which uses 357 MAX brass sized to 30 cal. Jack

	It is too fat to fully fit into the slot and when fitted should fill the top gap.
