The shop that had a Winchester rib matting machine was
'Gun Works of Central New York' in Verona, NY.

Don't know if they still offer the service.

There are a couple Parker rib matting machines around and they change hands every so often.
All about the same set-up. I don't know who has any of them now.

Thanks for the info

From their website, "Unlike other establishments offering Winchester "Style" barrel matting, we go a step further by utilizing the original factory matting technique. Our process involves using the authentic Winchester machine with original factory tooling, ensuring unparalleled authenticity. Every operation is conducted on factory machines right here in our workshop."

I asked Len Bull one time how tapered matted ribs were made, Len told me that they were made on a dedicated machine that used large wheels that were tapered and had the pattern on them. Different wheels for different rib widths and patterns. Somewhat similar to a knurling tool, only much larger.
