Some time ago someone posted a pet load of 7.0 gr of 4759 topped with a 75-85(?) grain bullet.  Is anyone out there still loading 4759 in their 25-20 SS or still have data in their logs for it?  I got one of the last big jugs of surplus (pull down) 4759 and have both the Lyman 257243 mould and the Ideal Perfection mould labeled simply 2520 which goes from about 46 gr to 95 or so.
I’ve got some ooooold W-W brass as well as a small batch of new Jamison on its way.  With the old brass especially I plan to start with very light charges and work up carefully.
Any and all tested 4759 loads for bullets in the range mentioned will be greatly appreciated.

Hey, GF:

My 044-1/2 in .25-20SS likes 6 gr 4759 with either the Ideal or Rapine 77-gr bullet or the Lyman 257463.  I can usually keep 5 shots under 2-1/2" or so at 100 yd with this combination.

My relined and rechambered Winchester LoWall likes 7 gr 4759 with the 257463.  My relined and rechambered Stevens 44-1/2 does pretty well with 8.5 gr of 4759 behind the 25720 90-gr bullet out of my Rohrbacker Yankee mould.

I find the 75-gr or so weight bullets do better  than the 87-90 gr weights in the standard twist barrels in .25-20SS.

Thanks, B_R!  That’s just the kind of first hand info I was looking for.  I’m thinking that fixed cavity mould is going to throw an 87 gr bullet and make my original bbl less than happy.  I’ll have to adjust the perfection mould down to find what it likes best and use those.
Anybody else wanna chime in?

With 257420, which is a lighter bullet which works very well in my 13 twist 44 Stevens Model 45 my best loads are 8 grains of 4759, 8.5 grains of 4227 and 6.8 grains of H108. With bullets cast from an old one piece Lyman mould for 25-20 SS that weigh about 78 grains, the best loads were 7.5 grains of 4759 or 2400. With 257463, I use 6.2 grains of H108 so maybe the 4759 equivalent would be in the 7 to 7.5 grain area but a good start with any bullet might be 7 grains of 4759 and work up by half or less grain increments until the target tells you you're there.
