Interesting Swiss powder

I just received 4 lbs of Swiss 1.5f from Graf & Sons.  I checked a while back and they were out of stock.  I was surprised that the powder I got was manufactured in Sept of 2022.

I just shot the last of my powder from that lot. Starting on the December 22 lot Saturday.  Got my best scores with that lot, but I compressed the hell out of it (.28")

I have a little over a pound to shoot up before I use that lot.  I will keep the compression in mind.

Thanks

My particular lot likes .10 compression in a 45-70
Swiss 1 1/2F (No. 4) Lot No. 1-1002, Date Code 06-01

Another box, Swiss 1 1/2F (No. 4)  is labeled Lot No. 150.506
Shipping label is marked 4/2007 although based on a quick search it appears as if it was made on the 150th day of 2006

This is so old I guess I should just use it as fertilizer...Wink Grin

This has been stored in a safe unmolested indoors where the RH is keep at 45% in the original plastic containers.

Anyone have a opinion as to the shelf life... ?

I understand after decades it will still ignite but is there any degradation
of power or performance like can be experienced with smokeless?

I am compressing my current lot at about .15 or so.
About 8 years ago a coworker was dealing with his aging father-in-laws guns. He had an old 1978 vintage 20 lb canister of IIf. He wanted to keep the container but I cleaned his 3 rifles for the powder. There was about 12 lbs. it is still viable but not as accurate as Swiss so I mostly use it for my 50 cal cannon a couple of times per year.

Just gpt an email today from BACO saying they just got a big shipment of BP. It will go ery fast I'm thinking, even at much higher prices.
I had 8 lbs. of Swiss 1 1/2 on the table for sale at our last gun show at $35 a lb. and none sold. I think current price is $45 a lb. plus hazmat!

Did you opt for the monthly installment plan?

I'm currently putting money away for a set of spark plugs for my Jeep. Think I'm going platinum plus this time. I hear they last longer. I'm duplexing Schuetzen FFF currently in an effort to save my Swiss supply. Not the best but it goes bang.

I'll stick with the finely ground Kingsford hickory charcoal. Magnum primers and a kicker charge of nitro and pow zoom zowie, "to the moon, Alice"!

The mesquite stuff is too volatile, IMO.

As much as I shoot BP, these 4 lbs plus the 1.25 lbs I have in 1.5 Swiss will last me a lifetime.

I'm making a list of my remainder beneficiaries.
If my friends and families don't want it

There will be enough BP for a 21 Cannon Salute.

I'd love to pay $45 plus hazmat.  Locally the price up here keeps going up much faster than in America for some reason.  It's $100 a pound now ( about $73 usd ) before shipping.

Looks like BACO's latest price is $57 a lb. for Swiss 2fg.
