Latest project for '26

There's been a few reasons for not posting here so far this year, not much worth spending time explaining but here's one of the latest rabbit holes I've fallen into.  I bought the mostly finished action off a member here and from what I was told it has a colorful history, I won't dwell on that but I'll stamp my numbers on it and finish it, hopefully in time for this summer's season.  My plans are to make it a quarterbore offhand rifle, bumping a Ballard out of that spot in my line-up.
The design, unless somebody can correct me is a modern version of a Lechner action, with similar characteristics of a Yost.  It is a single trigger and I don't see ambition enough present to design any set triggers for it, so it'll have to do, as is.
My caliber of choice will be a 25-35, using a barrel Clay at BRC recently did for me.  As the pics show, it's currently just out of the mill where I cut the octagon.  The dimensions are mirroring a Ballard barrel I recently did in 22rf with .900" across the flats at the muzzle, and 1.1" across the flats at the chamber end.  Length is 30" which seems to be a combination I can still hold fairly well in the offhand game.
I sorted through my blanks and semi inletted collection and with a little modification a stock that was originally cut for a Hoch action is going to work well.  More to follow as time permits.

Looks good. Thought I could make a pile of chips but not in the same league.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Looks good. At least you don't have to convert it to a striker action! Wink

Thanks,
Yes and that's only three barrels, two more to do...
