40-70 SS chamber reamer

Is there anyone who either has or grinds a 40-70 SS reamer that uses .405 win as the parent case? My memory is getting pretty bad but it seems at one time I read of such a reamer just can't remember where I read it.

Pacific Tool made one some years ago just for that. I'm sure there are some out there. I have one but it is not for rent or otherwise.

Try this thread.  I think the 4D Shiloh 40-70ss is what you want.

After reading everything over again I think you are right. I called Shiloh and ask Lucinda what the difference was between the Shiloh chamber and the original other than bore dia. and she couldn't tell me. Was supposed to call me back but I guess they forgot.

I found the answer pretty quickly by just looking at Pacific T&G's site.

Shiloh reamer:

Normal .40-70 Sharps reamer:

Click on the images and it opens up, then click again to expand and see details better.

Yes  Dave
That 2.585 length is to use the full length 405 Hornady
brass, AKA 40-72W length.
That is how my Ruger No 1 is chambered in "40-72W Hornady"
0.408/0.400, 12 twist Douglas.
