Mystery trap Buttplate ?

Was this a commercial conversion of the std. Win. Plate ? It’s the only one I’ve ever seen. A friend found it in a odds & ends box at a gun show & bought it cause he knew I would have to have it. It appears to have a two digit # no. On the inside ? It was very well thought out & executed and works extremely crisp.  Does anyone know anything re: who made this trap buttplate ?

Now I want it. Neat! The two prongs snap over the screw head to hold it closed?

It looks to me as if the screw holds the spring, The loop over centers against the flat on the bottom of the stem when the door is open. Because the loop is beyond the pivot, it holds the door shut.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

A friend of mine has one liked that only the door is checkered as well.  It's on an old sporter Springfield 1903 likely made in the early teens.  Low number and long slide with an 'S grip' (like a Ballard grip).  I did not remove the buttplate, so I don't know if the internal mechanism is the same.  I just assumed it was build by the stocking gunsmith.

I'd guess it was a custom mfg on an orig (maybe repro) Win steel butt plate.

The trapdoor parts look modern mfg.

The extension on the back side is staked into place in the door itself makes me think of modern mfg, along with the seam betw the tang and door showing on the front side .
everything 'In the White'.

The door parts, tang, screw, skeleton/wire spring all look much more like add on mfg parts than the plate.
Those parts are In the White as well.

?? Is the small lug that the screw is threaded into a separate piece perhaps hard soldered on.. or a solid orig piece of the butt plate itself.?

An aftermarket, small production # project is my guess.

just my thoughts.
