Sharps New Model 1869 sporter

I posted a question a few days ago about some lead weights inserted in the stock of my Sharps New Model 1869 Sporter. I decided to remove the weights and repair the stock crack by filling the holes left by the weights with dowels and bedding compound. Overall the rifle is in nearly pristine condition. It weighs 10lbs. As I mentioned previously according to Sellers there were only 50, 1869 sporters made between 1869 and 1872. The letter I have on this rifle indicates was shipped in 1871.
Some folks asked for pictures of the rifle so here are a few.

Damn nice rifle. I once dreamed of one of those becoming mine- truth be told, I doubt I've ever actually seen one! Just a pipe dream from reading old Flayderman guides. Thanks for letting us take a look.

If you get a chance it would be nice to see a close-up of the action from the tang sight base to the front of the receiver.

Give me a better idea of the shape of the lockplate.

Thanks

and thanks as well for what you've already posted.

Good question, on the new model 1869 sporters I have seen there have been several variations of the sharps type collars. In Roy Marcot's new book his examples are similar to my rifle with what my be called a "small" collar. On a 1869 sporter for sale on Guns International right now, there is the larger Hartford collar. This variability holds true on other Harford guns. See Mike Nesbitt's article;

I was hoping for a shot like the one below.  With the close ups you've already posted one could probably make a replica look like an A rifle like yours.

Hmm I'm not sure I understand since there are several other distinguishing characteristics that would differentiate a fake from a vintage not the least of which is a letter from the sharps records which I have. The receiver has a much deeper mortise than newer 1874 rifles besides lock plate not having been machined for the pellet primer system. I suppose someone could make a pretty good copy if they wanted to go to the trouble of getting all the other characteristics correct. But look closely at the pictures I have posted.

I wasn't talking about faking an A rifle, just making something similar out of a '63 converstion.

For instance, the rifle shown above is a gun I had build back in the 70s.  I was able to get a NOS lock plate, so I used that rather than the rusted one that came with the gun I was converting.  If I hadn't been able to get the new lock plate, your pics would have been useful for reworking my original one to give the gun an A rifle look.

Thanks
