I have long used a toilet base sealing ring to lubricate screws.  Its main ingredients seem to be some type of wax and linseed oil.  In any case, the material works great with both wood and metal screws and I haven't come close to using up one ring after over 30 years.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I have a little box screwed to the side of my reloading bench by my Lyman lubrisizer and I scrape off excess bullet lube on the edge occasionally while lubing bullets. When I run screws into stocks I scrape the threads across the lube before screwing them in to make them go in easier.
My bullet lube is a mixture of mostly bees wax, Crisco, and some Vaseline.
