Another one of my single shots. Stevens 44 1/2 in 32-40.   About as nice a standard grade Stevens "farmer" rifle as can be found. Bore is 100% I only wish I could see those old open sights better but I'm hesitant to modify it with sights on this nicer original.

I don't think that you detract from the originality of a 44 or a 441/2 by changing the sights as long as they are period correct. Remember that the factory would put any sights on a rifle that the customer wanted. All my Stevens have tang sights and ivory bead front sights, most of which I've added simply because they help me to shoot better.

Complicating the deal  is I  shoot a rear aperture and a front post only slightly better than open sights. I need an aperture front also. I may soften on leaving it alone at some point.
