45-70 Chamber reamer

I have acquired a very early Trap door Springfield with a rough chamber. Does anyone have a finishing reamer I could borrow? It will be returned as soon as I clean up the chamber.

You can rent from 4D reamers, very reasonable.

You cannot cleanup a chamber with a reamer with out removing metal and that means a deeper rim cut and a longer chamber. Also a SAAMI spec reamer most likely would be undersized for your gun.

There is a small gouge about 3-16" long in the chamber wall which in turn is gouging cases. That is my major concern. Also, there is some age detritus or corrosion restricting the chamber mouth. So I don't anticipate removing much metal.

You probably wont remove any metal since a gouge is deeper than surrounding metal. You might end up having to have the chamber sleeved and then reamed to .45-70 again.
