Military RB front sight

I have a nice 43 Spanish carbine, a refinished Argentine model, that I would like to change or alter the front sight so it will be shooting on at 50-150 yards, instead of 2-3 feet over.

I can't tell if it is soldered or brazed onto the barrel of it it is simple dovetailed. Obviously needs to be replaced or made higher.

Suggestions are welcomed. I'm hoping somebody here has some prior experience in dealing with this situation.  Smiley

It's a nice, handy rifle in in very good condition mechanically. Shoots well but oh so high, as other military sighted guns of the era. Has a great bore and a wonderful trigger for a roller.

I guess soldiers then were taught to aim at the feet so as to hit at the belt line.

Use a hose-clamp to affix a piece of metal which can be trimmed to make a suitable front sight.  This avoids actually altering the rifle, and lets you arrange the sights for a suitable distance. Good shooting, and Merry Christmas!

They are brazed on, at least the couple I worked on.

I would leave the orig sight in place.
Cut a slot thru it and pin or soft solder a blade in place.]
Same idea as the front sights on Winchester SRcarbines.

You might flatten the orig sight on the top a bit before cutting it for a slot. Makes the process a little easier to find the center.

John,

Would it be easier to change the rear sight? I presume you have the original #1 Military rear sight on it. May be better, so you can easily put it back to original. I know it’s already been refinished, but just a thought.
