While I agree with Westerner's thoughts I would add it should be a light, easy to carry rifle in a caliber that is manageable in that package. I would encourage an 8,15x46R but recognize the 32-40 is easier to get there. But we are talking about a special rifle and a little more effort feeding it should be of no concern. Crafting your own ammo for it can be a reward in it's own right.
  
If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.
