Looking for 45-90 PP loads.

Getting a Shiloh 45-90 and looking for everyone’s favorite BP loads using a paper patch. I have played with a 45-120 with PP with ho him results in the past. Also have a 550 grain money bullet mold….

My 45 caliber shiloh's get along best with .446 diameter bullets , cast 16-1,wrapped in seth cole 55y or 55 w paper. Nothing heavier than 535 grains , ie  nothing longer than 1.45 long. 
My 77  gets along best with 79 grains of 1 1/2, but my other 90's prefer 84 grains.

My 45-120 used a .446 Buffalo Arms money bullet and Seth Cole #55y too so at least I have the paper and a ton of powder and 16-1 lead. I’ve been reading the 550 is a bit too heavy also.

The 77 gets along best with the 525 money bullet, but the other 90's do well at 1000 with the the 535,

I pretty much agree with Don on this.   

In most of my PP rifles a .446"  535gr Money with Seth Cole 55W is the ticket.  I run mine through a .450" Lee sizer after patching either wet or dry.  A single 0.060" LDPE wad over the powder with the bullet 0.1 to 0.125 in the case.  Lots of people like Swiss 1.5 in that cartridge but a while back I started on a new lot of Swiss Fg that really shoots extremely well.

I have also had decent results with a few other bullets. .443 530gr BACO elliptical with 8lb Eesleek paper.  Good, but not quite as good as the Money.  Also I have a .445" 535gr PJ Money that I haven't used quite as much.  The BACO 446545M has shot some stellar groups out of a 1:16 twist 45-90 but I think it prefers the shorter 535gr bullet if the wind is bad.

You won’t have any problems since you’ve already been patching your 120. Take Dons advice on bullet length. A good fit to your bore is important, I think. I check by pushing a patched bullet through the bore with a cleaning rod. I want to feel some resistance but not too much. 
As for a load, here’s mine for what it’s worth. I fill the case to the mouth from the drop tube leaving enough room for a .060” P Wad. That’s 93 to 95 grains of Swiss 1 1/2 depending on the powder lot. I compress .1” and set the patched bullet on top. 
Squeeze the case mouth just enough to hold the bullet loosely. This process has served me well with both the 45-70 and 45-90. These are of course target loads. Hunting ammo is a different animal.

Thanks fellas! I’m going to look into a lighter bullet mold and see if I can find someone to trade my 2f for 1f. I have a ton of the stuff. All Gotex unfortunately, not Swiss….

I have had decent results with goex fg but not nearly as good as Swiss fg.  Id stick with the 2f if it's plain goex and not Old Eynesford
