I have bought a few clean actions for $400 but that was several years ago. There are a few rifles on gunbroker for less. I do have a new Tippmann action if you want to start out with a new one.

I have a complete 1889 Swedish that I'd be willing to sell. It's a #1 action.

In recent years I've paid from as low as $80 up to $400. Simpson Ltd. has a number of clunker rifles complete for under $300 and if you can't find an action I'd buy one of their clunkers to build from.

Most of their guns tend to be husqvarnas. My understanding is that the parts aren't interchangeable with remington made guns. This seems like it would complicate a build?

For the best bang for your buck, and easiest/most guaranteed path to a good rifle, buy one from Kenn at Rollingblockparts.com.    (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

He goes through them, make sure they're right, and describes them well.  You're buying a sure thing, not a guess.  After you fix up a clunker, you may be into it more $$, and a lot more aggravation.

If you're building up a BPCR type rifle there's nothing wrong with a Husqvarna at all. In fact I think they're one of the finest actions to build from, and have several I've built using those actions. The early ones were made by Remington, and later actions also. Then Husky got tooled up to build their own and copied what they got from Remington, so parts interchange. I even put pistol grip lower tangs on those actions that were made by Remington in the late 1990's and they took a few minutes to narrow the lower tangs to slip into the Husky frames. Nothing that would have been different than had I fit them to an American version.
I'd not hesitate to use a Husky to build with.
