Wow, I’ve never seen a torn case that was pushed into the rifling.  Glad you got it out.

Jack,
I started using the paper funnel after a couple times of filling the extractor cut with cerrosafe... made a mess.  A recipe card works about the best.

I had one like that.  I carefully tapped a soft bullet into the muzzle and once it was fully into the barrel I used an old cleaning rod to knock it down until it pushed the brass out through the breech end.  I don't remember who gave me the idea, but it worked very well.

In my case it was a breech seated black powder paper patch load that ripped the case in half.

I also use the paper funnel to chamber cast after getting some Cerrosafe under the extractor on my Match B Hepburn, and having to pull the barrel to clean it out.

I had that happen with a gun once. I simply dunked the whole works in a pot of boiling water. Strained the cold water to save the cerrosafe, and concurrent deep cleaning of the gun was an unintended beneficial consequence to boot.

I keep a small aluminum funnel with a long-ish flex hose to administer cerrosafe. Trick is to pre-heat it when pre-heating the barrel.

I gotta get Chris Christiansen to teach me how to do a sulfur cast sometime.
