MVA 1885 breech block question

Hi,

Will an MVA 1885 breech block drop into an original rifle without needing fitting or hardening?  Just looking to replace a pitted original and go to a small diameter firing pin at the same time.

thanks,

Chris.

I believe it was SSDave that told me that they need to be hardened.  For that reason I have been buying originals when I can.  I have a fat firing pin one that is severely pitted but only around the pin hole.  I will probably bush it eventually.

Chris, I put one of those in one of my rifles a few years back and it does drop right in however the corners had a little less radius to them than the breach block opening in the receiver so I gave the edges of the block a little more radius with a diamond file so it would mate with the back of the receiver rather than just touching in the corners. Pretty easy job and I think the steel in them should be tough enough to not have to be case hardened but it probably wouldn't cost much to send off to one of the case hardening outfits. It's either that or have it blued. Bob

The one MVA block I purchased had to be fit. MVA recommends hardening them.
