Bullet lube

An old subject I’m sure and I did not do a search.

I just finished my first match season of shooting using my new CPA chambered in .38-55. The barrel is 1:12 twist, bullets weigh
345-grains, powder is either IMR 4227 or SR4759, and I breach seat.

The only lube I’ve used so far is SPG. However, in reading old books about the Scheutzen era, there is a lot of data on different lubes, most being homemade.

I’m not a scientist, so mixing and melting various ingredients is something not in the mix (pardon the pun).

My question….is there a commercial lube that I should look at besides SPG.

Thanks!

Tom

I know a lot of friends who have used SPG for many years and still do. They tell me it works great. I mix up my own formula that has alox as part of my blend.

Javelina Schuetzen Lube is the one to use.

Temps here can run from a little below freezing to over 100 degrees. No leading, easy clean-up, and superior accuracy are what you get when using JSL.

For me SPG works great with black powder, but not smokeless.

I've been using Javelina for a couple years now. Works good. Smells bad. My supply is low so switched to one of my own lubes which I like better.
