Importing a rifle from Germany?

I am thinking of selling my Sauer 8x48R kipplauf Buchse. Before I put any real effort into advertising it I would like to know what is involved for a private sale or if that is possible. I sold a rifle to a guy in Belgium last year and he had to get a permit to import before I could get the export permit from my local weapons office. It was quite straight forward but he picked it up from me at a meeting point we agreed upon, not sure how that would go through the post/UPS. If ATF issues a import permit must the sale go through a dealer(s)? Can someone other than ATF issue a permit? Would it be possible for someone to fly in take possession and then fly out?

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

Contact Steve Bertram who is a member here and does a lot of import export business. I he goes by SBertram or you can also find his website online. He'd probably be the best one to answer your questions.
