A few of us are trying to bring more single shots to this corner of the country. Western Canada does its part as well there have been quite a few top shooters from around here.  Unfortunately the numbers keep dwindling. A couple of my high walls came from Bob Zimmerman and Chuck Bordman both great shots. Wes Turner came from here but wisely moved to a less crazy Stare

I finally took the 30-30 High Wall to the range today, sore back and all. I replaced the cheap 4x scope with a nice 10x Lyman All American with target turrets.  I was breech seating an Accurate 170L bullet that was fully engraved on all the bands, shooting at 100 yds.  I experimented with several powder charges of 4100 and a couple of seating depths. I haven't ordered a correct knockoff spring yet so with the SST spring the trigger pull was terrible.  Over all I was pleased with the results.  More load development ahead and some fixed ammo testing once my eBay dies show up.  Next step is to duplicate these group sizes at 200 yds.

After I got home I revisited the seating depth and found that I wasn't even engraving the base band. I had to modify my seater stem to allow me to adjust it deeper.  It appears that the chamber had a long throat.  The seater setting in the photo seats the bullet with less than 1/16" not engraved.  Next stop 200 yds.

Either 10 or 12.  The first time I measured it it came out at 11.  I have a new rod coming that should be more accurate.

I tried shooting the DST 32-40 but even at 50 yds with the correct diameter black bull for my front circular aperture, it fuzzed out so bad the black would disappear.  That rifle is in the safe until after my cataract surgery. The post front aperture that came with it might have been better.  I need to see if I have a fatter post.

Crackin me up, Jack.  Grin

A local smith round these parts has made stocks from Koa. They are very nice. They look a bit like curly maple.

It my fate in life to crack you up.  My cleaning rod handy doesn’t always spin freely. To help out Powder Balley, I bought a nice one with double bearings.

I had issues with the front sling swivel catching on the front rest bag and causing the rest to lift up.  Today I removed it and the barrel band it was screwed into and filled the hole with a brass insert.  With the seater adjusted deeper and the swivel gone it is time for some serious range work.  Now if I could just get my back better and my cataract surgery, I might get somewhere.

My Borchardt 32-40 has a band like yours. Reminds me of something from the 1940-50s. Doesn't seem to effect its accuracy. No sling swivels to deal with.

The rifling marks left on your bullet look rough. Probly not a Shilen or RKS.
