Yes Joe. It is another parts gun!

I couldn't resist the price at today's Oregon Arms Collectors show. One of only 2 Winchester Single Shots at the show.  The other was a nice 32-40 that EdBu had for sale.  This one is in 30-30, a caliber I don't have in a high wall, small shank, SST parts except for no fly in the hammer and an antique serial number.  It most likely was a .22 that has had the right wall cut down.  Funky stocks and a very good bore.  Inexpensive Challenger 4x Weaver scope.

This makes an even 20 Winchester Single Shots. 17 of which are high walls.

I have my flame suit on Joe, so go ahead and criticize Smiley

Good start on the numbers, someday though, you'll buy a Ballard and these will make/be trading stock... Grin Grin Grin

Didn't you notice the two Ballards I had at Spokane? A heavy barrelled DST .22 and a short nickle plated DST 30 Wesson offhand rifle.  I do have 4 Ballards and that is probably enough.  I have to keep them in a different safes since they argue with the Winchesters very loudly, keeping me awake.

I did, but it was an opportunity...

I just store my Sharps, Winchesters and Remingtons muzzle down in the safes so their whining is muted.

Maybe Mongo. I don’t know a knothole from a knothead

Only $700.  The guy had it marked  $850.  He turned out to be the guy I bought the .22 Hornet from last year

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I had seen photos of high walls with cut down right sides but never found one for sale. A couple of days ago one that was still a .22 sold on Gun Broker and then I found this one.  I do have 30-30 dies and a mould that should work for fixed ammo and another for breech seating.  Today I am going to replace the few set trigger parts and use them in my 32 RKS build when I get it back.

Over 40 years ago I traded a Stevens 44 in .22LR for a High Wall varmint rifle in .22 Hornet with a JR Buhmiller marked barrel. Beautiful varmint type stocks in 3x wood, with a Model 70 checkered steel buttplate. It had the right side cut down, but not quite as far. A fun accurate High Wall, but I eventually sold or traded it. Can't even recall how it went away now? Probably for a Marlin or Ballard rifle.

It was unusual to say the least to see two of them come up for sale the same week.  I wouldn’t have minded getting the other one as well but was saving my $$$ for the show.  I was hoping for a nice original DST high wall in a desirable caliber like there were two years ago but nothing. Lots of Sharps and Hepburns this year.  Good to see you again

It looks like someone had installed a lower tang complete with SST components without changing the hammer or sear.  I replaced the trigger so far but I don't have the weaker knockoff spring so the trigger pull is a bit stiff for now.  Now to make a 30-30 seater and bore sight the scope.

The best guess on the wood based on some image searches is that it is quilted maple.

Whatever the wood is, I don't think anyone would deny that it is very unique!

The buttstock and forearm would match better if the buttstock were darker or the forend lighter.   It fits in well as is with my other rifles.

Neat wood and a neat rifle!  Seems like a lot of nice single shots come from the Pacific Northwest!
