Octagon portion is a constant 1.7" in flat to flat.  The round portion has a dramatic taper to .735" at the muzzle.   The rifle balances 1 finger width behind the forarm screw.  Feels nice offhand.

Seems it's been modified on both ends.

I measured a couple of my 44's,I'm getting about 8.1" for the octagon portion. Hmm.

Old factory barrel blank?  Heading out to the range.

So was this an earlier 25-20SS barrel then?

I believe it was an early barrel because of the caliber marking on the bottom octagon flat.

2 MOA at 100 yards with Winchester White Box 40 grain plinker ammo.  Need some Lee Shaver inserts for that front sight.
