Barrel profile for BPCR Silhouette

I have searched to see if this topic has been covered, but either it hasn't (doesn't seem likely) or my search skills ain't so good (more likely).

I have a Whitney Phoenix with the original barrel in "40 CF" (40-70 Sharps BN) that is in a schuetzen configuration and the 30" octagonal barrel is under 1 inch in diameter.  I would love to keep it and just re-line it, but I am wondering if it will be too susceptible to overheating in a match context.

Anyone with experience in this?

All barrels can get hot, the lube you use has a lot to do with how well it will shoot in hot conditions. I wouldn’t be concerned with a 70gr. charge. In normal temperature ranges.
I’ve shot barrels so hot the fore arm screw would burn my fingers.
Good lube and fouling control, they shot fine….

I would also like to see a picture of your rifle to compare to my
.44-40 Whitney-Laidley Rolling Block first variation.

Before anybody comments about how I'm not allowed to use that butt stock in silhouette, i have a replacement set from Tree Bone that I'll be fitting to it.  Smiley

As long as the rifle doesn't weigh more than 12 lbs with iron sights, the profile and length doesn't matter much..
Replace that Schuetzen stock and you're good to go.

Yeah, it's just that the buttplate is too deep for the rules.

"Crescent-style buttplates are permissible, but cannot be over 1 1/8 inch deep when measured from a straight line from points of the buttplate."

Thank you.  It's going to get a new liner soon!  Keeping it in the same chambering (for better or worse!).
