Sights and progressive bifocals

Does anyone shoot with a scope or with a tank site and wear progressive bifocals? It seems that there’s infinite ways where you can’t see anything and only a very small spot where you can see something. Is there a workaround for that

Investigate Knobloch or other brands of shooting glasses where you can move your lens to where you are looking thru the CENTER of the lens when you are looking at the target.  It’s the ONLY way I know of to really see when shooting.

I don’t particularly like the progressive lenses I got last spring, but they seem ok with scopes. I did order a ‘computer’ prescription at the same time which is fixed at about 4’.  It try to remember to ditch to those at the range.  It turns out my worsening cataract in my right eye makes it hard to get perfectly clear vision anyway. I am going to have surgery in a few months and will see how that helps.  I mostly want improvement either iron sights. At Spokane I was unable to see bullet holes at 200 while Wes on the bench to my left, who had recently gob through cataract surgery could see my bullet holes just fine. I pretty much gave up on the iron sight relays. In bright sun the orange targets were just a blur. I switched to black targets for two of the relays and that helped somewhat.  After my surgery I might look into those custom shooting glasses.

Glad to hear you're doing the cataract surgery soon, Jack. I delayed, my shooting suffered, and night driving got a little scary. After the surgery it was like the scene in the Wizard of Oz when the film shifted from black&white to Technicolor - iron sights cleared up, bullet holes appeared as if by magic (but still not where I hoped they'd be), and pretty girls became prettier. The only negative aspect was I had to go through and change the focus on all my scopes. I specified new eyeball lens that still require my use of low power cheaters for up close work, easier and cheaper than more exotic lenses.

Requiring reading glasses was my choice as well.  I still have plenty of them in different powers.

Thank you guys for your suggestions. I have a set of knoblocks. But don’t seem to have much luck wearing them. I suppose I should take my glasses off, but I can’t see anything if I do that . I do have a pair of them computer glasses I could try. I didn’t think they would be an outside type of a thing But that is an idea too.
Again, thanks for the input

Depending on the frames you use, you can get the +diopter part of the prescription in the upper corner of the lens close to your nose to get a good sight picture.  If you can find a pair of Junker rifle frames, you’ll be golden!

I took my computer glasses out the other day and in the scope, the crosshairs were completely visible even against the brown background that I have to deal with and weed so they are a viable option. Thanks again for the idea.

Dean the best I found was to get glasses from Decot and have them put the bifocal lense in the very bottom corner of the lense so you could read the sight.

Do you have any advice for ordering from Decot?  Would I have my optometrist take any special measurements?  I'm on the east coast so going to see them in person is not gonna happen.

Hey Chris!  It's Rob Bird here in MD.  Any advice on how to get myself into a set of Knoblochs?

You'll need a copy of your prescription to download onto their order form. When you place the order, one of the people at Decot will call you and go over what type of shooting you'll do, where you want the bifocal and finalize the order. In a couple of weeks your new glasses will arrive.
