plumloco,

Several on this forum have built Cole's and to my knowledge, there aren't really any schematics for this action.  The castings should have divits that indicate where the screws go and carry on from there.  I've built three of them, bought an original to give me an idea but everyone is different. I've had my hands on three originals and each one was completely different from the other.  This build is very simple in design, study the mechanics of it, plan your steps, and proceed.  I have two left to build and someday, I'll get back to them.
My hint on the sequences: square up the mortice first, machine or file the breech block to fit.  Thread the action, fit the lever to the action and block.  I made a dummy plate with the same trigger and hammer screw spacing so I could see the interaction between these, and fit them.  The springs for the lever, hammer and trigger all came up different, I don't recall which design was the better one.  Maybe Bruce, Rodney or one of the others will chime in here.  The extractor is similar to the high wall in function, but it's different also.  I made my rear screw hole spacing the same as the Remingtons and my original.  A pistol grip #1 rolling block inlet is a little different but if you stay just shy of full inlet roughing it will work and fit up well.
My 2˘

Attached is the drawings that I have . If you’ll PM, me your address, I can send you some paper copies. The one is for an alternative fireing pin arrangement. Gil that is very true. Greg, excellent job on the article on the metal targets. You’re a busy man. The David Cole action was built in a blacksmith shop in Wapello Iowa they were primarily used for the local team for long range shooting they had one woman shooter on the team Nellie Young and her gun was chambered in 40-70 SS. To my knowledge, it is the simplest ,strongest ,self cocking single shot action made. Perhaps not the smoothest operating but very little could go wrong.

Here is the last one I built about five years ago. 45-70. I shot it that year at the Quidley. I managed to get eight hits on the diamond, so it shoots well.

Rodney,
That looks like a behemoth of a barrel on that gun.  How big is it?
