Advice for bullet mold for .38-55

I am new to bullet casting and would appreciate advice on a good mold for a single shot rifle with a Krieger 1-14" twist barrel and bore/groove dimensions of.366/.375. It is not throated for breech seating. I am thinking a bullet weight of over 300 grains for target shooting at 200 yards plus distance. Thanks!

You can shoot a bullet, at least 1.5" long, with ogive of .65 long and a meplat of .18, like Accurate Molds could do.

A bullet like that, would be in the 380 gr range.

Here's a post I found from someone who shoots a 14 twist barrel. These sound like reasonable weights.
"I run 1-14 twists in my 38-55s I shoot the lyman 330 grn postel ad the Old west 350 grn Nasa bullets Over olde ensforde or swiss 1 1/2f powder. We shoot swinging targets so a ring and wiggle is all thats needed. Even the heavy 500 yd rams give a good wiggle when hit, not what the 550 grn from my 45-90 gives but its easy to see."

I have several 38-55's some with a 14 twist; some with a 15 twist.  All modern ".375" barrels like yours.

All of them like the Accurate Molds 38-320L. I have them made with a body diameter of 0.378" and the bore rider diameter of 0.367".

I size them to 0.377" and lube them at the same time.

I shoot smokeless, but not hot loads. They will knock over a ram at 500M, but a heaver slug (370 gr.) does it better  Wink

I'm just getting started with loads for my CPA in .38-55. Mold is tapered for breach seating and weighs 345-grains. Smokeless powder only so far.

The 30" barrel is a Bartlien 1:12 twist. Mold is Accurate 38-330A.

Art, good to know. Am focusing on IMR4227 right now. Am @ 18.5- grains but MIGHT try 19.0- grains. Am cautious about getting too hot of a load.
