Hi-Lux front mount problems...

If this has already been discussed, please point me in that direction!
I recently purchased a Hi-Lux 20X target scope.  I have a 7X and 10X Unertl, but I went with the HL for a 20.

Some things I noticed right away; there is a lot of play in the block bases when slipping them on the barrel mounts. The Unertl blocks have much closer tolerance. This isn't a problem as they seem to tighten up fine against the dovetail, but it's an example of maybe excessive play

The real problem is the front scope block; When in battery and looking through the scope, I can "roll" the scope/cross hairs from right to left about a foot at 100yds.  As long as I make sure the cross hairs aren't canted, it will shoot great groups when I do my part, but I have had it suddenly roll one way or the other and I'll have a shot 8" or more from group center.
Anyone else experience this?  Or,  more to the point, am I doing something wrong?
Appreciate the insight from the Single Shot Brain Trust...

What do you mean by "roll" the crosshairs?

Are you able to manually rotate the scope in the mounts?

Or ...?

Are you saying the rib has that much play in the scope front ring that it allows the scope to rotate and throw the crosshairs off? That's pretty sloppy and I'd contact the company and see what they can do to warranty another front mount that's tighter. Use dial calipers to measure the rib and the scope mount slot before calling them so they know what's going on.

Smoke, I can grasp the breech end of the scope and turn the whole tube to the right and left.  If you look through the scope while doing this the cross hairs move right to left.

The rib is tight to the tube, but it does seem that the channel it rides in is oversize enough that it allows the scope to roll right and left.  It does take a little twisting to do this, and it wouldn't  bother me much if it weren't for getting an unpredictable 8" flyer now and then.  Otherwise, I'm really liking the clarity and I have shot some great groups.

I'll measure the slot and rib and see what I find.  I do realize there needs to be some clearance for  vertical/horizontal adjustments, but this seems excessive.

Because I am not always the quickest on the uptake, for clarity is the issue that the slot on the front ring for the pope rib too wide allowing the tube to rotate or is the issue that the front base is too narrow (or I guess you could say the front mount is to wide)? and are the Hui-Lux mounts Gen 1 or the Gen 2 competition mounts? I'd be interested in what you find. Regards Chris
