Unertl for 200yd schuetzen matches.

As my CPA nears completion, I need to buy a scope. I have heard the BV20 can’t be mounted at the 7.25 spacing so to get 1/4 moa adjustments. Is this true? Also, if a guy was looking at a 12,14,15 or 16 power, which one would be the best? I’ll
Prob end up with a target 12x, but I like to see my target up close. Thoughts ? Thx.

Look for a 20x. You won’t regret it.  A Lyman Super Targetspot will work just fine as well. I will be shooting my 32-40 high wall this morning with a 20x Lyman in a 200 and 100 yd group match at Puyallup.

I can watch my .32 bullets grouping at 200 yards through my 20x Targetspots, obviating the need for a spotting scope (although I set one up regardless). My 2" 15x Unertl gathers enough light and is optically efficient enough to do the same, my 16x Fecker Champion not as well but is ok. Anything of less magnification/brilliance and I'm dancing my head back and forth from the rifle to the spotter. Ditto watching .22 holes at 100.

I would definitely get the 20x for bench. Personally I need the magnification for hold offs. I do find it a bit much for offhand though, so I swap it for my MVA 6x for that

You might look into a Malcolm 20X Vintage Target Scope by Hi-Lux. I have one with the improved scope mounts on a my .22RF Ballard BR rifle and find the mounts are every bit as good as my Unertls (even better optically). I've only shot it out to 100 yards and haven't used it out to 200 though. One can be had for about $850 new while a Unertl 1 1/2" (3/4" tube) will likely run $1,000 or more (on ebay). My only complaint about he Malcolm 20X is they weigh about 1/2 lb more than a comparable Unertl. Not a problem for BR but a bit heavy for OH shooting.
Lyman STS scopes are also a viable alternative. A 20X might be had for $800-$1,000 and are fine scopes. Right there with Unertls IMO.
Oh yeah, one more thing. the Malcolm is brand new; Unertls are 50+ years old. I'm not knocking Unertl or Lyman, I have 4 Unertls and 2 Lymans on various rifles.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

There are some deals that come along VERY infrequently on eBay.  I picked up a decent 20x STS for $605 shipping and tax about 2 months ago.  Another way to get a good price is to look at stores or auctions for a rifle with a scope where you can sell the rifle and have a scope for less than the scope by itself.  My first 20x STS was free after buying it with a BSA MKIII and selling the rifle and all the stuff that came with it.

I'm running a Programmer 24x on my MVA highwall and could not be happier.  Actually prefer it to my
Golden Eagle.  It has a fine dot that matches the dot on the CBA target at 200 yards.  Sadly I can see the bullet go where I do not want it to. Wink
