Uberti 1885 low wall copy in 22 Hornet

Curious if anyone has one of these. I just got one locally but can't really find any information on them. This one was NOS in the box.  Can't tell from the label but looks to have shipped in 2012 maybe? Also came with a Marbles tang sight in the box.

Any thoughts on the Uberti? I know it isn't a Winchester but it doesn't seem to be junk either.

They're a lot closer to the originals than the Japanese Winchester 1885's.

I built a center fire on one of their hi wall actions and had good results.

I've got one in 38-40 WCF. I put an MVA schuetzen sight on it but haven't had time to shoot it yet.I think the build quality is very good.

I've had one for several years.  Mine is a fine shooter with lighter bullets, especially 225438 and similar.  My home range is limited to 100 yards so I can't comment on longer distances.  It's a fun rifle.

I have a 225438 mould. Shoot that bullet in several 222s with a little blue dot.

RE: 1885 Actions originally designed by John Browning;

I have several Uberti's,
A few HiWalls and one LoWall in 32-40.

My Uberti LoWall is a Scheutzen pattern with the hook butt plate, double set trigger, tallish vernier tang sight, pistol grip etc. (Like the pic on their web site)

The current Uberti web site only shows the Scheutzen configuration Low Wall so I think you might have one of the rarer straight forward LoWalls

Their current offerings are Caliber:
.17HM2 – .17HMR – .22LR – .22MAG. – .22HORNET – .38SP – .32/20 – .357MAG. – .38/40 – .44/40 – .44SP – .45LC
WEB Add: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

I am very pleased with all of my Uberti's
Even the 45-70 High Wall has an exceptional light and crisp trigger.

If you find yourself doing some research, I believe the receiver internal parts vary between the Original Browning, later modified slightly by Winchester, and the current Browning (Miroku) (B78) versions,
I don't know which receiver most closely resembles the Uberti.

There is a gentleman who I believe is the foremost authority on Browning 1885's
by the name of Wayne (texasmac) McLerran,
He has written a book (Amazon) which is a great overview and well worth it.

I think you will be very happy with your new to you Uberti.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

My younger brother bought a Uberti High Wall 1885 in .38-55 probably couple decades ago or so and it was $700 new back then. I didn't say anything to him, but thought "How good could it be?"
We took it to the range and it was a very accurate rifle, and I was impressed! He's never had a problem, and is still loving it as much as when he bought it. Changed my opinion of them for sure.

I never had a high opinion of them till I shot around a couple.Then my opinion changed. They are very good barrels.

I had one a number of years ago and I was able to fit original high wall parts .

I have a high wall in 38-55 and love it!
I also bought the low wall in .22lr. The stock had the Schuetzen large swiss buttplate but was a little short for me. The barrel was also a little light, so I found a centerfire take-off barrel in .40 cal and put that on it, Had Lee Shaver put in a .22lr liner. Then I got a Uberti High wall buttstock and put that on. Now the weight, trigger, buttstock and barrel length of the low wall almost matches the high wall perfectly. Unfortunately, the accuracy of the low wall isnt what I was hoping for, but with Rem Thunderbolts it will hold the 23 ring on the rimfire target at 100 yds, so it is more than accurate enough for offhand practice which is the main reason I bought it.
One thing about the Uberti's, corners are sometime very sharp. I spent a few minutes with a honing stone and took the edge off the corners of the breechblock mortise, the bottom corners of the breechblock and the corners of the triggers.
With the High Wall, the bore diameter matches the originals, at about .381 or .382 so slug your bore.
Overall, 100% satisfied with both! If you have half as much fun with yours as I have had with mine you will love it!

That Scheutzen style is really nice. I have a Stevens 52 in 38-55 that is more that style. The Hornet I have is just plain Jane. I also recently (few weeks before the low-wall) got one of the Courteney  Stalking rifles in .303. I went from never having a Uberti to having two of them in a very short time. (-:}

I wouldn't kick an Uberti HW or LW out of bed for eating crackers. I've never heard a discouraging word about them except from folks who disdain anything repro.

While my heart belongs to original HW's and LW's I recognize the viability of modern versions, and in my case it's with the Miroku's. My two Browning LW's (.22 Hornet and .223) are masters in the accuracy department, the Hornet especially, and their bank vault "feel" is comforting to me. Love to stumble onto one of the few that were chambered in a couple similar 6.5mm cartridges, as long as it was remotely affordable!

I have a Uberti high wall in .30/40 Krag.  Seems quite accurate at 100 & 200 yards with jacketed full power loads.  I replaced the buttstock with one from a Winder Musket.  Lots more fun to shoot after that, but a Winchester it ain't.
