ARE YOU LOOKING FOR 25-20 WCF OR 25-20 SINGLE SHOT BRASS? I AM NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN BY "BASIC" BRASS EITHER.

The other day we discovered that a rifle he had acquired has a loooong .32 Colt/Ballard/rimfire/etc. chamber, such that a small stash of Jamison .25-20 Single Shot Basic Brass I had fits beautifully without modification. I had purchased the brass from Buffalo Arms years ago with the thought of making .22 Maximum Lovell and/or R2 Lovell cases out of it but never got around to it. The brass is quite a bit longer than .25-20 SS brass and is straight with no bottleneck. Hope this helps. I wish I had more than the handful I gave him.

FWIW, .32 Ballard extra long, .32 rimfire extra long etc can be made from 327 Federal magnum brass. Ive posted about making it previously. Its very good and durable brass.

The 32 extra long is a heeled bullet, with a case length of 1.24” and overall length of 1.80”.

I measured some of the Jameson 25-20 basic brass and it is 1.80” long, so yes it will likely chamber, until you put a bullet in it. Then you might need a cartridge seater.

If breech seating it might be nice to have a few of the longer pieces of brass.

All well and good if .32 Ex Long ammo is the goal, but this is for a chamber way longer than "Extra Long". Don't know if it was a "regular thing" back in the day or if this is someone's idea of a special cartridge but at the end of the day the chamber is something like 1.90" long. And yes, the .32 heeled bullets out of the custom mold I had made for .32 Colt fit in the Basic Brass and the resulting cartridge fits in the chamber and goes bang with promising accuracy.

Good explanation! .32 Ballard Extra long is about .3" too short for this particular rifle chamber.

With that XXL chamber, you may need to have RMC machine cases to your specs.

You could make basic brass following these instructions.
making 25-20SS and 22 Lovell brass from .223 from the reloading section..
the only additional step would be fireforming the 223 bottle neck out of the case.  I have used these instructions to make 25-20 SS brass.  Takes some work but if you need the brass ???

It's probably chambered for the Frank Wesson .32 extra long, which I believe (but don't hold me to it) was longer than the Ballard version. That's what Rabbeth originally necked down to make the .25-20ss.
