Re-cut rim diameter ? (Read 1106 times)

	I've got a swede roller in 8 x 58 R danish. I've formed cases from 45-90 pretty easy but, rim diameter is slightly larger than 8 x 58R. The question is - what would be the easiest way to re-cut the chamber for rim diameter only? I'm turning rim diameter with a file and a drill.

	Don’t know how you would do it without a lathe and removing the barrel. You are probably better off to continue reducing the rim of the brass. Mike

	If you have a friend with a lathe you could get them to turn the brass for you. It is just a matter of tooling to do the work on the gun. JMH

	Lathe. Soft collet bored to the case body taper. Set the compound off a case held by the neck and a center in the primer pocket.

	Best thought, always modify the least expensive piece. Trim your brass rims.

	Seems like the easiest, and least expense of time and money would be to remove the barrel and open the rim recess slightly. Never need to trim another piece of brass.

	Marlinguy has the right answer. The next person to own the rifle would never be able to find ammo to fit unless you were available to tell.

	It takes a lathe to open up the barrel rim diameter, and it takes a lathe to trim case rims. You have to decide what is the least painful of the two for you to proceed.

The rod fits the case neck closely, and has a pin that fits into the flash hole to keep it centered. Clamp case and rod into the chuck and spin as I reduce rim or base diameter. But if the only problem I had was rim diameter I'd never do this method as it's too time consuming to do in volume. I did it for my Darr barreled Rolling Block because it's a breech seater barrel, and I only needed to do 5 cases to have one and spares.

	Just finished 25 cases for the 375/303 and it required trimming the rim own by about .015 - Mini lathe with a sharp fine file works well but easy to miss the mark.

	I use PPU 8x56RS brass, no need for a rim trim. Bob's your uncle.
