Trapdoor rifle wobbly rear sight

Has anyone heard of buffington rear sights being pinned by the army to prevent windage adjustments? My rear sight has some play left and right and I'd like to fix it or ultimately replace it

In was done but not often at all. Look on the bottom of the sight all have one pin showing that is the stop pin to prevent rotation off the base. If it was pinned to stop any windage it will have two pins . Some play in the Buffington is there after much use to use it rotate it past the desired point then come back to remove backlash.
Chances are if you purchase another sight it will also have some play as well.

I am by no means an expert here, but my 03 Springfield has a similar sight design? The windage was very loose when I got it so I started tinkering, and discovered the windage screw was extremely worn to the point there were almost no threads left in the middle. Found one still in cosmoline on eBay, replaced it and it tightened right up.
