.22 BPCR spotting boards

I'm working on making a set of spotting boards for .22 BPCR. How important is having a grid pattern on these? I'm seeing several variations in silhouette shapes and grid patterns. What's the norm?

At a match I go to they just stick the pins in. No grid.

If your spotter wants to call out MOA adjustments they're pretty handy, if not always definitive.

If "One-half a ram to his left, just off his nose; good elevation" is good enough, you can forego the grid.

My partner and I clamp the animal silhouettes (encased in clear plastic) onto a metal clipboard and the spotter plops a small round magnet onto it to show the shooter where his shot fell without comment. We try to keep the chatter to a minimum because it's irritating to hear comments/coaching from other teams when trying to concentrate. The shooter glances at the board, sees where his shot fell, and uses his computer between his ears to compensate accordingly. We don't presume to tell each other what we both already know. Pretty much the only communication between us during a relay may be a word of encouragement, reminder of the time remaining, or a groan if he misses the 5th turkey.

Does anyone know of a website where I can images of the BPCR animals on grids.  I’d like to print out a set & make pin boards as well.

I found two pictures of silhouette targets with grids that don't match. One is the corkboard set from Buffalo Arms and the other is a set not available from Dixie Gun Works.

The grid is a minute of angle grid. It helps show the bullet strike in terms that both the shooter and spotter use to adjust the sights. Just saying "high to the left" is not enough info but "3 minutes left and 1 minute high" helps.

The 22bpcra website has the proper target templates

Also with 8 minutes to shoot sighters and 10 targets there’s not a lot of time for deadreckoning spot calling. Like Bent ramrod said most common calls are over under animal left/ right etc. followed by 30 seconds on the clock😜

I have what you guys are looking for. it will take you a bit to print them out, they are in PDF format and you get 2 per page There is a total of 8 files, they are set up as left and right as to which way the animal is facing. If you print the animal in one direction flip the page over and print it in the other direction. My files are too big to send as an attachment on here. PM me your personal email address and I can send the files to you. These have been scanned from an original score book Unfortunately I no longer have the original sheets but these scans will work without any problems. What I like to do is print them on card stock in different colors. You can get the paper at Walmart.  If any of you are coming to Ridgway or Shippensburg I hope to be at both matches and do carry a few sets with me.  I am the RO at Ridgway and will be the RO for the Shippensburg super shoot.

Larry at SPG sells a very slick setup, I.e.,  box with.22 bpcr grid targets, bpcr long range grid targets, Quigley buffalo, and magnetic pins.

I like the grid on the targets because they help judge size. When I'm spotting, I'll call the hit 1 target high, 1/2 target left. Then looking at the spotting board, I can easily and quickly convert that to MOA and be able to give the correction to dial in (that is for the spotting section only. Once score starts, I'll just call it by the target and give a hold)

When spotting I find it's easier to convert to bullseye or target size when giving the shooter input. So looking at a target with say a 3" bullseye I might say, "You're half a bull at 9 o'clock" or "Half a bull" at whatever it relates to a clock face. Or 1/4 bull or whatever. I prefer this method because it works regardless of target or bullseye size, and the shooter can look through his scope or sights and know based on the bullseye how far he's off center.

Unlike other shooting disciplines, coaching is allowed in BPCR and 22 BPCR.

To those that sit in silence or offer little help.

If I were paired with a "spotter" or coach and they did not tell me of a big condition change or reversal after I got into the sights, I would find a new partner real quick.

Although this is my reaction, I encourage everyone I compete against to remain quiet  Grin

If a spotter remains silent, then you really don't have a spotter.
