.357 Maximum maybe?

This would be my choice.

So Babydriver, are you suggesting 43 Egyptian?

I like the 357 Max idea.  That would give me 3 rifles based on that case.  My 30 Wesson Ballard is fun to shot and accurate.  I am having a 32 RKS made soon.  I had better stock up on brass.  I have some but will need more eventually.

I don't think there is any such thing as a Complete Set 1885s

I accept that I have an addiction for 1885s

22 LR High Wall Winder
22 WMR bore and line in 25 RF Low Wall Take Down
22 Hornet Low Wall single set trigger
25 RF Low Wall mint and original and made reloadable ammo for it
25-20 Low Wall
30-40 US High Wall
45-70 High Wall
50 Eley aka 500 3" High Wall. Totally original and 9/10 bore

My lifes work to get the set as close to Complete as possible.

I can also recommend the 30-30.  I have a highwall in 30-30 ( not original, but you have to look closely to tell ). It's an excellent cartridge for a single shot.  With a #3 half octagon barrel, the extra weight makes it a fair bit more pleasant to shoot than a '94.

I could probably be happy with highwalls in just 32-40, 38-55 & 30-30.

Chris.

Well I didn't mean only one of each Smiley.  I just meant many, but in those 3 cartridges  Cheesy Cheesy.

Oh and I also like the 38-50 idea someone mentioned too.   And maybe I'd add a 33/40 or 33/47.

Chris.

Somehow counting your 1885s seems to me sort of similar to counting your money at the poker table. I have some. Will likely acquire some more. Have a complete set? Very unlikely. Not ruling that out completely though.

I have been looking at Winchester single shot rifles for about forty years, maybe more. I doubt that I've actually SEEN an example of every cartridge they built. Gotta keep looking- show this weekend, even if a single example is doubtful around here.

You got that 32-40 that Joe sold on Gun Broker?  That went for a great price.  I had it bookmarked but forgot to check on it today.  Glad you got it though.  It looks to need a slight bit of TLC but at that price it was a steal.
Have you noticed a weakness in high wall prices lately?
Even Gussenhoven bought a high wall.

I am going to slow down especially at auctions so you may have some other bargains in the future.  I am going to save up so I can have a stash to take to the Oregon Arms show in August.

Seeing the price it sold for reminded me of a nice SST 219 Zipper I bought back in 2017 on Gun Broker.  The starting price was $799 and there were no bids the Saturday morning on its final day.  I awoke with what I thought was a bad crick in my shoulder blade but as the day progressed it got worse and by about 2 pm I was in urgent care and they said I had a pulmonary embolism and I should drive across the street to the hospital emergency room.  I had bid the $5 minimum that morning but with all the medical issues I had totally forgotten about it.  As I was walking into the hospital my phone chimed and to my surprise, I had won the auction. I had to notify the seller that it would be a few days before I could send a check.

The HW Gussenhoven got wasn't cheap. It was nice and it was what he had been looking for for a long time. Told me he can't wait to shoot it.
