Chris, thanks for invite on Tuesday, sounds like a lot of fun, but I wont be able to make.  I have made arrangements to take my rifle down to Douglas barrel.  I know they can do the 38-55, but I'll ask about the 38-50.  I'll make a last minute decision then.  For the barrel I'm thinking a 28" 1:12 twist, SS, finished to .700" or .750" at the muzzle.  CPA makes Schutzen style butt stock (left handed) for the Ruger so that's on the list as well.  To start I'll mount a scope.  With irons sights I'll have to be a little more creative.  A rear tang sight will likely be out of the mix with the rifles tang safety.

Thanks for input guys I appropriate it.

Froggie, thanks for offer to check with John Taylor.  I would like to have his contact information though for future reference/projects.

Further thoughts, suggestions.
I have shot my 38-50 RH out to 1000yds and for Midrange matches.
It is a rebarreled Browning BPCR, with a 10 twist barrel and importantlyit was chambered with a Tight Neck 38-50 reamer.with minimal 0.050" freebore followed by a 3 degree per side leade.
Load is 62.5 grains of Swiss 1.5 under my DDEPP 360 grain bullet for 1375 -1400fps.
As has been mentioned, it is a good one for BPCSillywet.
The cases are made simply from 30-40 Krag brass. I size the Krag brass with a 303 brit die, then load with 8 gr of Unique followed with a snugly tamped case full with Corn Meal and
a dab of bullet lube.  Cases fire form nicely for further loading.
After fire forming I neck turn the cases just enough to mack the necks more circumferencialy uniform.
A great cartridge, the 38-50 RH.  It seems to have the optimum case capacity for 38 cal BP. And it will work well, also with Smokeless loadings, too as others have said

Chris, Thanks for the invitation sounds like a fun time, but I'm not going to be able to make.  I will be taking my rifle down to Douglas barrel to have the barrel put on.  I'm going with a SS finished to 28", 1:12 twist, and .700" to .750" at the muzzle.  I know that can do the 38-55, but will ask about the 38-50.  I'm planing on having this rifle ready for the match this summer.  CPA make a left hand Schutzen style butt stock so the Ruger, so that's also in the plan.  If I want to shoot iron sight I'll have to get a little creative because of the tang safety.  So for now I'm planing on a scope.

I hope I'm not repeating myself.  I tried to post a reply yesterday. put it did not show up on the forum.

make sure you get the 0.375 groove diameter rather than the old 38-55 diameter of 0.379-0.380.
You will have more choices of bullets that way.

My crooked No3. Squared it up to the breechblock and threadmilled it.

And then some contouring. Needs a ton of handwork blending things together, and a real stock.
