Sorting cases for repeatable accuracy - worthit?

Although most of our matches at Clark are CBA we, and Paul Bunyan have one or more ASSRA target matches per season for a challenge and a change.  I've fired 248s and 249s but as yet no 250s.  32-40 using CCI LRM primers under 13.2 - 13.4 of 300 MP.
I am debating if sorting cases that have performed well is worth the time and effort, and using those with seemingly repeated accuracy for record shots.  Is this a rabbit worth chasing?
I know that BP Jack loads at the bench with one case.  others?

It's possible that it could help but, is a lot of extra time.

Back in the '90's, when there was a CBA club here, a dear friend, Etz (Griz) Johnson was a CBA record holder. What he did was prep the cases, weight, neck turn, chamfer the necks and inside of the primer hole, bring all to the same length and maybe a few other things I have forgotten. Then, after all that, he would shoot groups and any case he though was shooting out of the group, he would throw a way.

I always liked shooting one case but, CBA and ISSA don't give enough time to do it.

I'd be more inclined to just breech seat and use the same case all through a match. Then there's no question even between the same brand of cases.
I'd also consider always indexing that same case into the chamber the same direction too. Pick some place on the headstamp and always point it at 12 or 6 o'clock.

au contraire monsieur Frank  Grin

I shoot single case at the Puyallup CBA matches with time to spare.  You do lose out on wing reading time, but I have always shoot fast anyway.  I cut a notch in the case rim to speed up orientation.

I haven’t lost all my marbles yet but there is definitely a hole in the bag somewhere.

I use preloaded cases in the 32 Miller Short only. All others just one case. Yes, it's worth it if you take the time to actually study your wind flags for reference. Plenty of time in ISSA matches to use one case.

I've always assumed, 357 Mag case volumes are closer from case to case than 32-40 cases because they are much smaller and made in much greater number.

In my "case", shooting a 357 Max case in a Borchardt, I have to lay the charged case on top of the breech block and raise it to the chamber then, push it in and I can't be in a hurry doing it.

Plus, I'm old and slow  Smiley

Not easy with a 32-40 either Frank. But you still got plenty of time.

My Borchardt 25 Ackley Krag with a scope on it is a real pain. And that's fixed ammo! Seems to me I figured an easy way one day but don't/can't remember how.   Sad

Long ago when I shot highpower service rifle, I would weigh cases and sort them by weight.  There are statistical methods of figuring arithmetic Mean, Median, and Mode for ranges of numbers.  I would plot the weights into a spreadsheet and let Microsoft Excel do the math.  The cases within a few grains of the median were my 600 yard slow fire cases.  The outliers were for  200 yard standing or sitting as they are not nearly as critical.  I did all the basic case prep work too, making sure primer flash holes were inside reamed.  Cases were routinely trimmed also.  I also neck turned the 600 yard cases.  To answer your question, it gave me more confidence that my cases were the best I could achieve.  Any confidence boost is helpful.  Wink
