Large pistol primers For 38-55\4227 load

I seem to have a lot of large pistol and large magnum pistol primers and very few large rifle. I used them for loading black in 38-55. That coming from the BP reloading primer by Mike Venturino and Steve Garbe. My question is how would they work on 4227? What is the difference between the large pistol an rifle.

I don't have an "educated" answer to your question, but the same dilemma.

Knowing the smokeless loads in BP cases are tiny, I tried some large pistol primers and didn't get disappointing results.

See the 30-30 load thread here for my results in that cartridge.

I know there can be concerns about the LPP imprinting the bolt face, but have not observer any ill affects (yet).  Might be due to all my rifles being modern built?

FWIW, I have also used magnum primers with (moderate) smokeless loads in 38-55 with very good results.

Mike.
