IMR 4227 is now discontinued.  So what is the powder of choice for replacement?

Trick question.
IMR 4227 was discontinued 10-12 years ago.
H4227 was relabeled as IMR 4227 at that time.

IMR 4227 shows currently available, so unless someone has other information…….

I personally haven’t seen anything that says IMR 4227 is or is not being discontinued , but to address the question of substitutes I overall find that the Vihtavuori N100 series to be similar to the IMR series. Both are single based (nitrocellulose only) powders with similar energy levels. In terms of burn rate the following are comparable:
4227 - N110
4198 - N120
3031 - N130
4064 - N135
4320 - N140
4350 - N150

This is all well and good,  but I’m behind the times.  I’m still looking for a direct replacement for 4759!  Back when I started shooting in the Nineties that was the magic powder and I didn’t really look for anything else. I bought what should be a lifetime supply, but I didn’t think I’d live this long.

Back then I did find another powder that came in a close second.  What was it?  It was 4227, of course!  I haven’t bought a grain of it for about 20 years, being sold on 4759 and all that.

Have you got any more bad news for me?  I never really liked golf that much, but I guess I could…

I've been using Accurate 4100 and it seems to be very similar to 4227.

Two weeks ago I bought 2 lbs. of 4227 at a Cabelas. $64.00 a lb. Unreal. Guess if you want to shoot, you got to pay the price.  Dale.

Powder Valley shows 4100 in stock in 1 and 8 lb sizes.  They have 300 MP and IMR 4227 in stock but 1# only

I see H-4227 listed as discontinued ( that happened several years ago ), but nothing about IMR-4227.

There is plenty of IMR-4227 around here right now.
