Not necessarily so Handy Dandy

I bought this re-decapper off of eBay and received it today.  It is marked 'Handy Dandy" Alamogordo N.M.
Based on the eBay photos I was hoping it took RCBS shell Holders, but nope.  Ay least it is 32-40/38-55 so will work for what I shoot. Unfortunately the part that pushes up to seat the primer is missing.  Also you it is a but awkward to deprime as you have to pull the lever away from the body.
I don't suppose that anyone has one of these and can post a photo of the internal parts.

Jack

Wonder if RCBS shell holders could be adapted somehow to alter them to fit and work?

That top piece with the shell holder slot could be remade to tale RCBS ones.  I have made 2 copies of the Weber one I got with my 25 Hornet that take the RCBS ones.

Actually RCBS shell holders will fit in the body and the set screw that holds the original top piece in will hold a standard shell holder.  I just need to make a piece that fits in the body and allows the use of standard RCBS primer pusher shafts.  That will be simple I believe and would just drop in with a spring that will be compresses by the shell holder.
One more project for the procrastination shelf Smiley

I recognize the shellholder as a Lyman X shellholder for a Lyman All American Pressas shown in picture 1.The X shellholder , the adapter for X to J shellholders, and the priming punch are shown in 2. Hope it helps.

Perfect Kurt.  Finding those parts would make this simpler.

Thanks

Thanks
I found some parts on eBay as well.
My question is whether the  priming punch works with the adapter. It seems to me that it would need to be longer.  I will have to study the photos closer.

Thanks

Reading closer, It looks like the punch IS for the adapter.

Thanks

I went ahead and ordered those parts from Midway.  I will still need to figure out a spring.

Thanks

I saw that tool or one just like it on flea Bay.  It looked a little too unwieldy to me.  There was also one that looked like it may have been from Jake Simmons, but it looked like it was going to go too high for me to get as a spare.

One small correction… that is a Lyman J-type shell holder and they called their “Universal” shell holders X-type.  If that unit takes the original style Lyman primer stem, it’s been long discontinued by Lyman but shows up frequently on everybody’s favorite auction site.  If you get the Lyman SH adaptor And priming stem, you may or may not be able to install it without alterations.  It is an interesting tool, but at my age, I don’t need another project to start on.  Wink

That is the eBay one you saw.  I looked like it took standard shell holders from the photo so I took a gamble on it.  I shouldn't be too hard to make it work with the two Midway item I bought.  I'll call this eBay purchase an "OK".  I get a few that are "WOW" and the occasional "WTF!"
