Ballard lever

I recently purchased a "ball and spur" lever from a gentleman here in anticipation of a Ballard build. My question is can you purchase the "ball" anywhere or do you have to make one up yourself? I see they are secured by one screw much like handgun grips.

I’m not aware of anyone making them commercially. I’ve been able to pick up a few over the years from someone just selling off one. Roller 64 on here used to make a stag one he sold commercially, but it’s been several years since I last saw his so I don’t know if he still makes them. Roller64 is Mike Bassett, a gunsmith in Oklahoma. His phone is: 405-315-0590 if you wish to contact him.

Made my own from ebony. No finish required. Not hard to do.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Marlin never made any models using the#6 ball and spur lever that had this filler. So I've always made them up myself which is fairly easy, but even easier when working with one of the later cast levers since you can do a lot of fitting while the filler is on the lever and not worry about touching the metal.

I wonder if a CPA Ball would be large enough to fit?

A best friend Neal made a similar lever for a thick wall highwall        using the same stock wood with no screw either side. He said with a smile, that he didn't want it to distract from his checkering!! Neither would I if I could checker as well as he could.
