Man, that is one gorgeous thing. Wood and metal, both. Spectacular stuff. But about that stain......
Wasn't there some Winchester sales/repair/parts/ and restoration place down in the Southwest (?) that sold bottles of stain that matched the nice red one that the old Winchesters were graced with? I remember looking at the site a couple of times in hopes of finding some part or other for a lever gun that needed some help. Can't recall the name, but it also had a forum or Q and A section.

There was two older gentlemen from somewhere in Idaho who sold Winchester red stain at all the shows around the NW. It was called Tapadera's N35 and I found a NOS bottle of it last year at the CGCA show and bought it. My last bottle went away a decade ago and couldn't find it anywhere.

thanks Vall. I recalled the website a little and the mentlon of the stain. Guess I had the location way off Roll Eyes. That was the name, though, now that you piqued my memory.

It's very potent stuff Pat, and even a small amount gotten on your fingers turn them red for a long time before it eventually wears off! I don't even open the cap without putting rubber gloves on!
