Start by saying he didn't hunt with a single shot, but my great nephew is 13 yrs. old and now has taken two nice deer in two years. Last year a doe with his dad's CVA muzzleloader, and this weekend his first buck with his dad's .30-06 rifle.
The proud 13 year old on Saturday:

On Sunday during a lunch break I got out my 1870's Remington #1 Rolling Block in .22LR with 10x Fecker scope and let the three young hunters shoot a few boxes of .22's to see what an old gun can do! Didn't take long and they were knocking little CO2 cartridges off a log at 75 yds. with my old Rolling Block. And looking at their modern .22 rimfires with disdain. Smiley

They have every rack taken by anyone who shot one on their property mounted inside on the  shop wall. But none of them are more than a bare skull and antlers. Guessing this one will be there too unless Emmett wants it on his bedroom wall?
The cabin on their 225 acres was built by the previous owner, along with the shop and about 6 other buildings. Locals tell that the owner was a moonshiner and they found remains of an old still, and lots of quart mason jars in one building after they bought the property.

Looks like he took it head on!  Just like my first buck 60 years ago.

Yes, he said it wouldn't move, so he decided to take the only shot he had. Partially angled so the bullet came out one hind quarter and lost most of that quarter from the exit wound, but kept from hitting guts.

He shot up three boxes of .22LR playing with my old Rolling Block, and was amazed how well a 150 year old gun could shoot! It has an old Fecker scope on it and extremely accurate. I'm sure he'd want one if most of them weren't so heavy.

That's way to do it marlin Guy. Get the kids hunting and shooting, preferably shooting real rifles. It is my mission to get a rifle in the hands of every teen I know, preferably a flintlock.

His dad started hunting with us about the same age, so he pretty much was going to hunt. Emmett actually began walking along on hunts when he was 9 or 10 and always spotted deer before any of us older hunters saw them.
