What you need is an American made Marlin Ballard .22.

If you will be walking about, then a BSA 12/15 relined with the Parker-Hale liner is what you will want. They were imported in large numbers during the 1980's and 1990's.

They show up regularly at gun shows and on the web. Good trigger, easy to clean, and accurate with good ammunition.

I have one that I shoot offhand after my back surgery because it is so much lighter than my International MK III. It is minute-of-angle with Eley Ten-X for ten shots at 100 yards when I guess the wind right. My friend has another 12/15 that shoots as well.

Before I consider a clunky ballard I might go for an American Martini

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

BSA Martini International MKII with a 22 LR RKS gain twist bull barrel.

Extension bloop tube to extend sight radius to use Anschutz sights.

8 to 30X Bausch & Lomb scope with sunshade on 3/8" dovetail base.

Dave, What chamber did you use in that rifle?

No, you need a Marlin Ballard. They are better than Martini's and you will live longer. I will admit they are ugly but not as ugly as a Martini. Ballard triggers are better than Martini triggers and Ballards can be cleaned from the breech end. You just can't beat a Ballard. Martinis suck. I have a Martini and it sucks.

Ballards can be cleaned from the breech end.

And the BSA Martini International MKII can be cleaned from the breech end as well - but after you remove the block and the stock.

However most of the stocks have a groove in top of stock (see bottom photo) which does not require the removal of the buttstock.

Not an issue since you only need to clean a rimfire once a year since the fouled barrels shoot more accurately than a cleaned barrel.

After cleaning my rimfire it takes at least 100 rounds through the barrel before the accuracy stabilizes again.
