California passed and the governor signed into law to make animal cruelty a reason to restrict gun ownership, how long before the California courts decide the legal taking of game is animal cruelty?
Look out hunters!!!

Thinking of moving to California?

I don't see an issue with it. I kinda remember a study years back associating violence against people that tracked back to torturing and abusing pets at an earlier age.

That said, anybody that messes with my kitties ... Wink

If you look at the definition of “animal cruelty” in California, you will find that many things the rest of the world consider normal are punishable by law. Things like leaving a dog unattended in a vehicle.

Things like bobbing tails or cropping ears have been debated for a long time.

I personally have a friend who was “investigated for animal cruelty and neglect” for having horses on pasture “not providing feed and clean water and shelter”. 6 horses, 40 acres, large stream running through it. No shelter other than natural trees. He was given time to build a shelter to avoid prosecution. This was in the mid 90’s.

The animal cruelty laws in California also apply to farm and ranch animals.

Before people say it’s not a big deal, they should look at the actual definitions.

As a 50-year resident of the People's Republic of Kalifornia who lives in a very rural place, I've seen the CA laws used to push dairy operations into bankruptcy.  The people targeted were pretty obnoxious, probably guilty as charged of animal cruelty & neglect, and lacked any political support.

Other operations treat animals the same way but are well in with the good old persons and nothing happens to them.

It was always Jerry Brown's policy to find any possible way he could find to get around the US constitution. Nothing has changed.

Hmmm ... funny ...

I don't recall Brown or Newsom ever declaring they'd be a dictator on day one ...
