I'll be taking my Browning BPCR to a week long match. What do you recommend for an emergency repair kit?

A pint of turpentine, to clean out the action if it starts mis-firing.  Just pour it through from the top and shake it out.

Other than that, it gets really difficult to do anything to these.  Anything beyond that, requires a couple slave pins and a good knowledge of how to get them back together, in addition to the spare part required.

I took one apart at a match and put it back together.  It took two of us, and I don't think I could do it again.

My solution when I go to the Spokane matches is to take a spare rifle or two.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Heading out to a long range shoot next week and I will be taking 3 rifles, and enough ammo for each, just in case. None of them have ever let me down, but I know better than to drive very far to a shoot and not have a spare or two.

About the only thing I can think of to fix on the range work be a case extractor for case head separation. If you have the screw in the action to lighten trigger pull (McGee Modification?) a screwdriver long enough to take the stock off couldn't hurt. When I first did mine, the screw came loose and it would fire if you closed the breech. Took the stock off and the screw out, and was back to shooting. Locktited it in when I got home

Any match, particularly when distance or expense is involved, I take a second outfit. It’s quick to change guns and avoids Harry Helpfull pulling out his leatherman tool and yanking parts out of my gun.

I have a small tool kit and cleaning rod that goes along, never use it on the firing line. If I had to fix a gun during a match would loose focus on hitting targets.

I'll tear down a Ballard or vintage Winchester 1885 during a match (and have because our matches are low key with generous relay times) and to that end I always take along some basic parts such as screws, firing pins, springs, etc. plus a small set of Wheeler screwdriver tips, drift punches, brass hammer, and cleaning stuff.

I've been inside of Miroku HW and LW's enough to not want to open one of them up under "field conditions". While they're wonderful rifles I've often wondered why they simply didn't copy the vintage actions instead of "improving" them in a frustrating manner.

My take along tool kit is what we always called a tanker bag. It’s about size that will hold a thermos bottle, center zipped two outside pockets.  Inside two Chapman tool kits one slot one Allen head. Another box, repurposed 38 cal 50 round bullet box holds specialty bits,

Main tool bag inside the tanker is a bankers bag, used to carry cash to the bank. It has a collection of specialty and homemade tools. Slave assembly pins for the CPA, 1911 barrel barrel bushing wrench, Marlin 39a homemade non scratch action takedown screwdriver and a push the ejector to lock down tool. Mini plastic strap wrench for shotgun tubes and magazine tube lock nut. Delrin tool to remove SxS forends

Any gun, brass and steel punch pins, small brass hammer. Very small pliers, water pump a parallel jaw Sargent and mini needle nose locking plier. Small adjustable wrench Proto Click Stop. Pistol sized cleaning rods CF & RF with a few brushes and jags. Tiny tubes of lube oil and grease

Last a plastic pipe tube with a pair Delrin knock out rods 3/16 for .22, larger for CF guns. And most important 4x4 piece of canvas to spread out when taking things apart.

All this back of the car, good match should have a designated safe area table away from the line for gun repairs. That’s were I will pull the bag out.

The $25.00 kit John Stepps made for the Miroko Hiwall was perfect!   Compact,he told you what punches to have ,to make a couple blocks of wood to hold action. I spent an afternoon tearing one down and putting it back together. Got to where I could dismantle and reassemble in like half hour tops. I gave the kit with the last Browning I sold. I've asked this before on another post, anyone having his kit maybe can post a pic....

Many Schuetzen shooters carry a machinist 5 drawer tool box & that’s what holds my gun specific tools at home. The range outfits small & easily carried. Can fix many things but relying on the 2nd rifle mostly. I do wear a belt and suspenders

ssdaves comment is very appropriate.  Unless you have some experience disassembling & reassembling the action I do not recommend attempting it at a match or away from home.

There's a 1st aid kit section in my book on the rifles that lists several parts that rarely break.  The most common part that tends to fail is the hammer sear spring (Browning part # B3474875).  I've replaced many of these and Lee Shaver makes a replacement that will likely never fail.  Unfortunately, to replace the spring requires full disassembly of the action.  So, in addition to a new spring, you'll need the following:
•      Disassembly/reassembly instructions
•      Gunsmith screwdriver set
•      Good set of brass punches and brass hammer
•      3mm cup-tipped punch to remove trigger-housing pin
•      3/16” X 1.5” (one end pointed) slave pin (home-made) to aid in breechblock removal/installation
•      Long common screwdriver or similar tool with a shaft approximately 8.5” long for removing the stock bolt.
